Tibetan Incense Sticks: My 4 Favorites | Himalaya Vibes
Tashi Delek, I'm Kunsang from Himalaya Vibes in Bern. Today I want to take you into a small world full of scents – the world of Tibetan incense sticks.
In our store at Kramgasse 63, we have an entire wall full of different varieties. Really, so many! But today I'm going to show you four that are particularly meaningful to me personally.
Incense as a piece of home
"For me, this scent is like home. When I smell it, I'm immediately back in Tibet, in my childhood."
– Kunsang
Even as a little girl in Tibet, incense was a natural part of our daily life at home. This scent has accompanied me for as long as I can remember – and even after my escape to Switzerland ten years ago, it has remained an anchor for me. A small moment that connects me to my roots, no matter where I am.
It's exactly this feeling of pausing, of a moment for oneself, that I want to share with you.
My four favorite varieties at a glance
1. Lug Sam – gentle and calming
Lug Sam is one of my favorite varieties for quiet moments. The scent is calming, with a subtle, floral note – not intrusive, but rather accompanying. Ideal for the evening, when the day is drawing to a close and the mind can slowly unwind. You can also find the Lug Sam Tibetan Incense Sticks 65g in a smaller 35g pack in our shop.

2. Himalaya Aroma – pure, herbal, authentic
Himalaya Aroma is the opposite: entirely without floral scent, but with a strong, herbal note that strongly evokes the plants and herbs from the Himalayan mountains. If you want to get to know the original, earthy character of traditional Tibetan incense, this is the right place. Available as Himalayan Aroma Tibetan Incense Sticks 80g or in the smaller 50g pack.

3. Emaho – the milder variant
Emaho is, so to speak, the gentler sister of Himalaya Aroma. The scent is milder, a little more subdued, but just as authentic in its origin. A nice choice for anyone who loves an intense herbal scent but prefers something more delicate. Take a look at the Emaho Tibetan Incense Sticks 80g – also available in 110g.

4. Shinkham – a hint of blossoms
Shinkham has a slightly floral note, but really only a little – nothing overwhelming. A beautiful, subtle everyday companion. Available as Shinkham Tibetan Incense Sticks 40g or in the larger 130g pack.

Which incense stick is right for you?
I'm often asked: "Kunsang, which one should I choose?" And honestly – it's entirely individual. It depends on what you're longing for right now: something calming and floral (then perhaps Lug Sam or Shinkham), or something strong, earthy, that transports you directly to the Himalayan mountains (then rather Himalaya Aroma or Emaho).
If you're unsure, don't just invite us online – simply drop by in person. At our store at Kramgasse 63, right in the heart of Bern's Old Town, directly opposite the Zytglogge, you can smell the different scents and try them out at your leisure. We're happy to take the time for a chat and to answer your questions.
More than just a scent
Incense has been a part of daily life and spiritual practice in Tibetan culture for centuries – a small ritual that helps to consciously shape a moment, find peace, or fill a room with a good atmosphere. That's exactly what we wish for you too: small moments of clarity and connection, in the midst of everyday life.
