"Sometimes someone comes into the store, hears the sound of a cymbal – and simply pauses. No words, no thoughts. Just that one sound. That's the moment for which I've selected these cymbals."

Tibetan Tingsha Cymbals – Sound from the Himalayas

Tingsha cymbals (Tibetan: ཏིང་ཤགས) have been part of Tibetan Buddhist practice for centuries. They mark the beginning and end of a meditation, purify a space before a ceremony, and accompany the silent transition between two moments of the day. A single strike – and the sound carries you into a different quality of attention.

At Himalaya Vibes in Bern, you will find Tingsha cymbals in various sizes and designs – carefully selected, all made of brass, all with the typical long sustain of good cymbals. Here's an overview:

Blank – the Pure Sound

Without engraving, without ornament – pure, polished brass that speaks for itself. Three sizes: 6 cm (202 g) with a deep, round sound; 6.5 cm (168 g) with a brighter, clearer tone; 8 cm (326 g) as the largest variant with the longest, fullest sustain. As a rule of thumb: the larger, the deeper and longer the tone.

Om Mani Padme Hum – Sound and Prayer

The compassion mantra of the Tibetan tradition as a sublime engraving, complemented by lotus flower motifs and the Dharma wheel on the inside. Two sizes: 6 cm (186 g) with a fresh golden look; 7 cm (280 g) with a warm patina and deeper sustain. These cymbals are not just sound instruments – they are carriers of a prayer.

Dragons, Auspicious Symbols & Other Motifs

Our collection is constantly growing. Soon, cymbals with Tibetan dragon motifs and the eight auspicious symbols (Ashtamangala) will be added – traditional motifs that have been used for generations on musical instruments and ceremonial objects in Tibet. Come by at Kramgasse 63 – I will be happy to personally inform you when the new variants arrive.
