"Om Mani Padme Hum – this is the mantra of compassion. It's on these cymbals, and when you strike them, the sound carries the mantra into the space. It's not just a sound. It's a prayer."

Tibetan Mantra Cymbals – Tingsha 6.5 cm with Om Mani Padme Hum (239 g)

These Tingsha cymbals have a diameter of 6.5 cm and weigh 239 grams. The entire outer surface bears the Tibetan mantra Om Mani Padme Hum (ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ) as an elevated engraving. The six syllables of the compassion mantra are arranged around the dome. The dome itself is adorned with a lotus flower, while the Dharma wheel is on the inside. Each engraving has its own symbolic meaning.

Due to their larger diameter and higher weight of 239 grams, these cymbals produce a particularly powerful, clear sound with a long sustain. The matte gold patina gives the brass a warm, traditional appearance. The black leather strap feels comfortable in the hand and allows for precise striking.

Om Mani Padme Hum – what does this mantra mean?

Om Mani Padme Hum is the most famous mantra in Tibetan Buddhism – the mantra of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The six syllables represent the purification of the six realms of existence and the cultivation of compassion, wisdom, and inner liberation. In Tibet, you encounter this mantra everywhere: on prayer flags, Mani stones, prayer wheels – and, indeed, on cymbals. When struck, their sound becomes the carrier of this centuries-old prayer.

Mantra cymbals vs. blank cymbals – what's the difference?

Sonically, both versions differ only slightly. The real difference lies in their symbolism. Blank cymbals are pure sound instruments. Mantra cymbals combine the clear sound with the spiritual meaning of the engraved prayer and are therefore particularly popular for meditation, mindfulness, and Buddhist practice.

Application – how it works

  • Hold the leather strap in one hand so that both cymbals hang freely.
  • Gently strike the edges of the cymbals against each other – not the flat sides.
  • Immediately afterwards, let them swing loosely and listen attentively to the reverberation.
  • A slanted strike produces a softer tone, a straight edge contact creates a particularly clear and powerful sound.

Care

  • Clean the engravings with a soft cloth; a soft brush is suitable for crevices.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents to preserve the natural patina.
  • Keep the leather strap dry and do not immerse the cymbals in water.
