Kunsang Choedon Stauffer – Himalaya Vibes Bern

Kunsang

"These 7 cm cymbals immediately have a presence. The sound is more powerful, fuller, and carries incredibly far. When I strike them, the sound fills the entire room and remains audible for a long time – perfect for meditations or sound work with multiple people."

Tibetan Cymbals – Tingsha 7 cm, polished (260 g)

These handmade Tingsha cymbals have a diameter of 7 cm and weigh 260 grams. Compared to the smaller variants, they are significantly more robust. The higher weight ensures a particularly powerful, full sound with a long reverberation. The tone appears deeper, more sustained, and develops a strong presence that is excellently perceived even in larger rooms.

The surface consists of polished brass without external embellishments. Inside, engraved symbols indicate traditional craftsmanship. The two cymbals are connected by a robust black leather strap and feel pleasantly stable in the hand due to their higher weight.

What are Tingsha cymbals?

Tingsha (Tibetan: ཏིང་ཤགས) are two small metal cymbals connected by a leather strap. For centuries, they have been used in Tibetan Buddhism to begin or end meditations, accompany rituals, or consciously perceive spaces with their clear sound. Today, they are also used in yoga, mindfulness, sound massages, and relaxation exercises.

Which size is right for me?

The larger and heavier a Tingsha is, the fuller and more sustained its sound becomes. The 6 cm version sounds slightly deeper and more compact, the 6.5 cm version brighter and clearer. These 7 cm cymbals offer the most powerful sound of the three variants: more volume, longer reverberation, and a particularly calm, present vibration. Therefore, they are particularly suitable for meditations, sound work, or larger rooms.

Application – how it works

  • Hold the leather strap loosely between your thumb and forefinger.
  • Let the cymbals hang freely downwards.
  • Gently strike the edges of the two cymbals together.
  • Then let them swing out calmly and consciously perceive the after-sound.
  • Different striking angles create softer or clearer timbres.

Care

  • Polished brass develops a natural patina over time.
  • If you want to maintain the golden shine, you can occasionally clean the surface with a soft cloth and brass polish.
  • The leather strap should remain dry and not be soaked in water.
