"I have many malas in the shop – but this one is the most colorful of all. Whenever someone sees it for the first time, they say: 'Wow, those are different stones, right?' No – it's a single stone. Indian agate carries the whole Earth within it."

Indian Agate Mala – 108 Beads (⌀ 8 mm) – Natural Stone Unique Piece

This mala consists of 108 genuine Indian agate beads, each with a diameter of 8 mm and a total weight of approximately 91 grams. Indian agate – also known as Indian Fancy Agate – is a variety of chalcedony found in India in an extraordinary range of colors: the same mala carries deep forest green, warm orange, delicate pink, white, light blue, and grey – all natural colors of the same mineral, created by different mineral inclusions during its formation in the rock.

Each bead is unique – no two stones have the same pattern or color combination. This makes this mala a true one-of-a-kind piece that will not be replicated in this exact composition. The turquoise guru bead made from another agate stone adds a calm, clear accent at the end; the green thread with two small end beads harmoniously completes the overall look.

Indian Agate – what makes this stone special?

Agate belongs to the quartz mineral group and has a hardness of around 7 on the Mohs scale – making it one of the most robust semi-precious stones available and perfectly suited for everyday wear. What distinguishes Indian agate from other agate varieties is its unusual color palette: while most agates appear in brown or grey tones, Indian agate brings the warm mineral diversity of the Indian subcontinent – iron oxides for orange and red, chlorite for green, manganese for pink and violet. No laboratory, no treatment – just nature.

Meaning & Tradition

108 is a sacred number in Buddhism – it represents the 108 worldly desires that one releases through meditation and mantra recitation. With each bead, a breath, a mantra, a moment of pause. Agate is considered in many cultures to be a stone of grounding and balance – anyone who looks at the variety of colors in this mala may feel what I mean: everything is there, everything belongs together, nothing is too much.

Care & Use

  • Agate is very robust – it tolerates water, soap, and normal everyday contact without problems.
  • Direct, prolonged sunlight can cause some colors to fade slightly over time – it is best to store it in a jewelry box or brocade pouch.
  • After wearing, wipe with a soft, dry cloth – this maintains its natural luster.
  • For meditation: hold the mala in your right hand, thumb and middle finger guide the beads – traditionally, the index finger is left out.
  • Can also be worn as a multi-wrapped bracelet.

The Pouch – a small token of appreciation

Each mala comes in a matching brocade pouch. This protects it and ensures it is already beautifully packaged – whether for yourself or as a gift for a special person.
