"The small heart-shaped motifs in the white stripes are only discovered upon closer inspection – a beautiful detail."
"Lhotse" Hand-Knitted Nepali Mittens
The "Lhotse" Nepali mittens are thick, hand-knitted winter gloves – inspired by traditional Nepali knitting patterns, but authentically handcrafted in Nepal. Each pair is made in small family knitting businesses around Panauti, Banepa, and Shakhu. No two pairs are alike – each pair is a true unique piece.
Material & Warmth
Hand-knitted on the outside from robust Nepali sheep's wool, with a soft lining inside – for warm, natural outer wool, extra comfort from the soft inner lining, and reliable protection against wind, snow, and winter cold. Breathable and reliably warm at the same time – the perfect combination of traditional look and modern wearing comfort.
Design & Pattern
The "Lhotse" features classic knitting patterns, crafted in Nepal for generations: a harmonious color combination of dark wine red, cream white, and gray/taupe, wide alternating stripes in white and gray, and fine horizontal wine red stripes. Fair Isle or jacquard patterns in the white stripes show heart-shaped or abstract motifs. The cuffs in dark wine red with a ribbed pattern ensure an optimal fit, while the separate thumb is in a plain gray tone.
As each mitten is hand-knitted, there may be small differences in the pattern or color transitions – each pair is a unique item with its own personality.
Fair & Local
With every pair of "Lhotse," you support traditional Nepali craftsmanship, fairly paid knitters, and sustainable, resource-friendly production. Mittens that not only keep you warm – but also do good.
Take a look for yourself – or come by Kramgasse 63, where you can try on the mittens directly in the store.
