Kunsang

"When someone picks up this large mala, something beautiful often happens: The person pauses. The beads are so present, so warm – sometimes I don't even need to explain anything. The mala speaks for itself."

Large Rudraksha Mala – 108 Beads (⌀ 9 mm)

This mala consists of 108 genuine Rudraksha seeds, each with a diameter of 9 mm and a total weight of approximately 40 grams. With this size, it is the most powerful of the three variants – each individual bead feels heavy and warm in the hand, and the natural mukhi grooves are clearly palpable and visible.

Small golden metal beads are placed between the Rudraksha seeds, giving the strand structure and creating a clear rhythm during meditation. The orange silk tassel on the Guru bead completes the circle – luminous, warm, unmistakable.

What is Rudraksha?

Rudraksha are the dried kernels of the fruits of the Elaeocarpus tree, which is native primarily to Nepal, India, and Tibet. Each seed is unique – the shape, depth of the grooves, and surface vary from bead to bead. This is particularly evident in this large variant: no two beads are alike, and that's precisely what makes this mala so vibrant.

Meaning & Tradition

In Tibet and throughout the Himalayan region, the mala is as much a part of daily life as morning prayer itself. 108 is a sacred number – it represents the 108 worldly desires in Buddhism, but also the completeness of the circle that always closes again. With each bead, you speak a mantra, a wish, a breath.

A large, heavy mala has something special about it: it grounds you. The weight in your hand reminds you that you are here – now, in this moment. I sometimes wear a large mala myself, not for prayer, but simply because it keeps me calm.

Care & Use

  • Rudraksha seeds prefer to be dry – avoid moisture and soap, never immerse them in water.
  • Occasionally rub with a drop of coconut or sesame oil to prevent the wood from drying out and to keep the surface beautiful.
  • Store the mala in its brocade pouch when not in use – this protects it and preserves its energy.
  • For meditation: hold the mala in your right hand, with your thumb and middle finger guiding the beads – traditionally, the index finger is not used.

The Pouch – a Small Gesture from Us

Each mala comes in an elegant silk brocade pouch, which I personally select to match – sometimes in vibrant red with a gold pattern, sometimes in deep blue. This way, the mala is beautifully packaged right away, whether it's meant as a gift – or simply because beautiful things deserve beautiful wrapping.
