Our prayer flags – in Tibetan Lung Ta, "Wind Horse" – are made of cotton and are available at Himalaya Vibes in several lengths: as a compact row with flags measuring 26 x 40 cm, and as a longer garland with a total length of 3 meters or 4.8 meters. This way, you can find the right size for your balcony, garden, or fence.

Each flag string traditionally consists of five colors in a fixed order: blue, white, red, green, and yellow – they represent the five elements of sky, water, fire, air, and earth. Traditional mantras, symbols, and the wind horse carrying precious jewels on its back are printed on each flag.

Meaning & Tradition

For me, prayer flags are not just decoration. In everyday Tibetan life, we hang them where the wind can touch them – on roofs, at mountain passes, in front of the house. The belief behind it: The wind carries the prayers and good wishes written on the flags out into the world. It's not about receiving something for oneself, but about giving something good to all beings touched by the wind.

When I see the flags in front of our shop in Kramgasse in the morning, it always reminds me of home. Of that peace that arises when you send something good into the world not for yourself, but for others.

Care & Use

Prayer flags are meant to weather – that's part of the tradition. Over time, the colors fade due to sun, rain, and wind, and that's precisely the point: the prayers symbolically "fly away" into the world. So you don't need to protect them or take special care of them.

Hang the flags in a place where they can move freely in the wind. The short version (26 x 40 cm) is well-suited for smaller balconies or as window decoration, while the long garlands (3 m / 4.8 m) look beautiful strung over a fence or between two trees. If a string eventually completely fades, it can be replaced – in the Tibetan understanding, this is not a loss, but a sign that the prayers have made their way.
