"The warm earthy tones in orange and ochre bring so much sunshine to the gray winter."
"Timbu" Hand-Knitted Nepalese Hat with Earflaps
The "Timbu" Nepalese hat is a classic, hand-knitted Nepalese hat with earflaps – inspired by traditional Chullo/Andean designs, but genuinely handmade in Nepal. Each hat is created in small knitting family businesses around Panauti, Banepa, and Shakhu. No two pieces are alike – each hat is a true one-of-a-kind.
Material & Warmth
Hand-knitted on the outside from robust Nepalese sheep's wool, softly lined on the inside – for warm, natural outer wool, extra comfort from the cozy fleece lining, and reliable protection against wind, snow, and winter cold. Breathable and reliably warm at the same time – the perfect combination of traditional look and modern comfort.
Design & Pattern
The "Timbu" features classic knitting patterns, as they have been made in Nepal for generations: vibrant earthy tones in orange, ochre, red, and natural beige meet jacquard/Fair Isle patterns in multicolored stripes. Long earflaps provide optimal cold protection, complemented by twisted wool braids with tassels for tying and a decorative tassel on the hat's peak.
As each hat is hand-knitted, there may be slight variations in the pattern or color transitions – each piece is unique with its own personality.
Fair & Local
With every "Timbu" hat, you support traditional Nepalese craftsmanship, fairly paid knitters, and sustainable, resource-efficient production. A hat that not only keeps you warm – but also does good.
It's best to see it for yourself – or stop by Kramgasse 63, then you can try on the hat directly in the store.
