“Chenrezig is the Buddha of compassion. The thangka is ready to hang.”
Chenrezig Thangka Scroll
This thangka shows Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the Buddha of compassion, in his white four-armed form called Shadakshari (“the six-syllable one”), linked to the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. He sits on a lotus throne, in front of a green halo and a golden aureole. His two front hands are joined at the chest, and in his upper hands he holds a prayer garland and a peony. Clouds and blossoms surround him, and at the bottom offerings stand on a green meadow.
Brocade, Silk and Fringes
The printed image is set in a golden-yellow brocade frame with green and blue patterns. Red silk ribbons and a yellow silk apron at the top add accents. Colourful fringes hang at the bottom, and the back is made of red cotton fabric. The red hanging cord is already attached.
