“Chenrezig is the Buddha of compassion. This thangka is large and ready to hang.”
Chenrezig Thangka Scroll
This thangka shows Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the Buddha of compassion, in his white four-armed form called Shadakshari (“the six-syllable one”), linked to the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. He sits on a lotus throne, in front of a green halo and a golden aureole with fine scrollwork. His two front hands are joined at the chest, and in his upper hands he holds a prayer garland and a peony. Around him are clouds, mountains, a waterfall and flowers, and a deer rests on the right. At the bottom, offerings with a blue jewel stand on a green meadow.
Brocade, Silk and Rod
The printed picture is set in a red brocade frame with a fine pattern, surrounded by golden-yellow brocade with green and blue patterns. Red silk ribbons and a yellow silk apron at the top add accents. At the bottom, a rod with orange ends keeps the thangka hanging straight. The back is made of red cotton. The red hanging cord is already attached.
