“Guru Rinpoche brought Buddhism to Tibet. The thangka is ready to hang.”
Guru Rinpoche Thangka Scroll
This thangka shows Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the master who brought Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. He sits on a lotus throne, in front of a green halo and a golden aureole. In his right hand he holds the vajra, in his left a skull cup, and the khatvanga staff rests in the crook of his arm. On his head he wears the lotus hat. At the bottom, offerings are placed in front of blue water.
Brocade, Silk and Fringes
The printed image is set in a golden-yellow brocade frame with green and blue patterns. Red silk ribbons and a yellow silk apron at the top add accents. Colourful fringes hang at the bottom, and the back is made of red cotton fabric. The red hanging cord is already attached.
