“Guru Rinpoche brought Buddhism to Tibet. This thangka is large and ready to hang.”
Guru Rinpoche Thangka Scroll
This thangka shows Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the master who brought Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. He sits on a lotus throne, in front of a green halo and a golden aureole with fine scrollwork. In his right hand he holds the vajra, in his left a bowl with a lotus flower, and the khatvanga staff rests in the crook of his arm. On his head he wears the lotus hat with a feather. Around him bloom red, white and yellow peonies, along with clouds and a rainbow. At the bottom of the picture, offerings on a lotus flower sit in front of blue water.
Brocade, Silk and Rod
The printed picture is set in a red brocade frame with a fine pattern, surrounded by blue-green brocade with golden patterns. Red silk ribbons and a yellow silk apron at the top add accents. At the bottom, a rod with amber-coloured ends keeps the thangka hanging straight. The back is made of red cotton. The red hanging cord is already attached.
