“Milarepa is one of the best-known yogis of Tibet. The thangka is ready to hang.”
Milarepa Thangka Scroll
This thangka shows Milarepa, the famous Tibetan yogi and poet. He sits in a white cotton robe on an animal skin, in front of a green halo and a radiance of fine lines. In his hand he holds a bowl of nettles, on which he is said to have lived in his hermitage. Next to him are a stack of scriptures and a vessel. In the lower part of the picture you can see the hunter with his bow, a dog and a deer, along with blooming peonies.
Brocade, Silk and Rod
The printed picture is set in a golden-yellow brocade frame with green and blue patterns. Red silk ribbons and a yellow silk apron at the top add accents. At the bottom, a rod with amber-coloured ends keeps the thangka hanging straight. The back is made of red cotton. The red hanging cord is already attached.
