Kunsang Choedon Stauffer – Himalaya Vibes Bern

Kunsang

"Sometimes someone comes into the store who is going through a difficult time – a separation, a loss, a moment where they don't know how to move forward. Then I take this mala and place it in their hands. Most people pause. Rose quartz has this warmth – it takes something away without asking for much."

Rose Quartz Mala – 108 Beads (⌀ 8 mm) – Natural Stone Unique Piece

This mala consists of 108 genuine rose quartz beads, each with a diameter of 8 mm and a total weight of approximately 88 grams. Rose quartz is a variety of the quartz mineral – its characteristic pink color is caused by tiny inclusions of titanite, dumortierite, or rutile in the crystal lattice. This is clearly visible in the close-up: the beads are not uniformly colored, but slightly milky-transparent, with fine internal veils and natural inclusions – a sign of genuine nature, no glass, no plastic.

Weighing 88 grams, this mala feels pleasantly substantial in the hand – present, but not oppressive. The guru bead is made of the same rose quartz stone, and the pink silk thread with two small end knots adds a vibrant splash of color. This mala is one of a kind – in this exact composition, with these stones, there will be no second one.

Rose Quartz – what makes this stone special?

Rose quartz belongs to the quartz family and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale – making it robust and perfectly suited for everyday use. What distinguishes it from other pink stones like morganite or rhodonite is its milky translucency: rose quartz allows light to pass through, but scatters it – it glows from within without shining. Each stone has its own internal pattern of veils, clouds, and fine inclusions. No laboratory in the world can precisely reproduce that.

Meaning & Tradition

108 is a sacred number in Buddhism – it represents the 108 worldly desires that one releases through meditation and mantra recitation. With each bead, a breath, a mantra, a moment of reflection. Rose quartz is not a traditional Tibetan stone in the strictest sense – but it aligns with what the mala is about: being present, being gentle with oneself, letting go.

I always tell my customers: a mala doesn't have to look perfect. It has to feel right. And with this one, that happens very often – almost by itself.

Care & Use

  • Rose quartz can slightly fade in color with continuous, intense sun exposure – it is best stored in a jewelry box or brocade pouch, not left permanently by the window.
  • Clean with lukewarm water and a soft cloth – no aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Rose quartz cannot tolerate strong temperature fluctuations – do not leave it next to heaters or on cold stone surfaces.
  • For meditation: hold the mala in your right hand, thumb and middle finger guide the beads – the index finger is traditionally left out.
  • Can also be worn as a multi-wrapped bracelet – triple around the wrist for 8 mm and 108 beads.

The Pouch – a small gesture

Each mala comes in a matching brocade pouch. This way it remains protected and is also lovingly packaged – whether for yourself or as a gift for a special person.
